Google Opens Access to Bard AI Chatbot...

...Racing to Catch Up to OpenAI
By Saundra Latham, Editor at LinkedIn News

Google is finally granting the public access to its ChatGPT competitor, called Bard. Users in the US and UK can sign up for a waitlist for the conversational AI service, starting today.

But... Bard still has limits. Rachel Metz and I asked it for tips on how to celebrate a birthday party on Mars, and Bard suggested that we plan the trip well in advance, telling us, "It takes about nine months to get to Mars." And it told us we needed a permit from NASA as well as approvals from the Martian government to hold the party. A bit more for Google to work out in future iterations of the product.

Google rolls out chatbot for some

Generative AI is taking another leap forward as Google opens up its chatbot, Bard, for testing in the U.S. and U.K. There is already a waitlist, though Google says it will expand access to more nations and users over time. The tech giant is reminding users that Bard "may give inaccurate or inappropriate responses" and encouraging them to use Google's search engine to double-check information, CNBC reports. Google has been under pressure to ramp up AI efforts after LinkedIn parent Microsoft integrated AI into its Bing search engine in partnership with OpenAI, creator of ChatGPT.
