Ogun Organises 5-Aside Football Competition

...puts Up One Million Naira Prize

There is no doubt that Nigeria is a sports-loving country and Ogun State noted for recording many firsts in sports and youth development initiatives, is blessed with a sports-loving Governor, Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun – MFR to encourage plethora of talents residing in every corner of the state and in the country at large.

Just this month, on Saturday May 6, 2023, the Federal Government of Nigeria and Ogun State Government signed an MOU on the Hosting Right for the National Sports Festival 2024, which is a grid point to many other sports development activities within the state. One of such sporting initiatives to encourage the grassroots football development across the state is the Ogun State Street Soccer 5-Aside tournament tagged ISEYA WINNING CUP 2023 by Ihouse Initiative Limited in collaboration with the state ministry of youth and sports in the development of youth talents in football using the private public partnership (PPP)

The Street Soccer Exhibition is in line with the goal of the Ogun State Government to reduce social vices, empower the youths in talent discovery, and promote sports in all the local governments areas of the state.

The competition had a significant street 1128 teams registered across the 20 local government areas and started with a kick-off match on Saturday January 14, 2023 on an artificial pitch at the Main Bowl of M.K.O Abiola Stadium Kuto Abeokuta. Having gone round the 20 local government areas of the state with a winner emerging in each local government area, the tournament enters the final stage where the state champion will emerge.

In an interview with one of the team Coordinators, Patriots FC, Mr Ayotunde Somide expressed satisfaction with the level of organization of the competition.

Victor Osimhen ‘locked in hotel for three days’ to block Liverpool transfer after ‘Klopp made move’


Victor Osimhen was reportedly “locked in a hotel for three days” to prevent Liverpool signing him after “Jurgen Klopp made his move”.

The 24-year-old is the subject of widespread interest from the Premier League and beyone after a stunning season in which he’s scored 28 goals in 36 games to help Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years.

But if it weren’t for Napoli director Cristiano Giuntoli’s “biggest masterpiece”, it all could have been so different.

Osimhen moved to Napoli from Lille in the summer of 2020 for £70m, with the Italian side beating Liverpool to his signature. And Giandomenico Costi, who worked as an advisor at Napoli between 2018 and 2021, has revealed how Giuntoli pulled off the transfer, locking Osimhen away until he agreed to join, with Klopp knocking at the door.

“The signing of Osimhen is Giuntoli’s biggest masterpiece,” Costi told Tuttosport.

The Flying Antelopes beat El-kanemi Warriors 4 – 0 at the fully packed Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium on Sunday, October 2, to end their 32-year wait for silverware. Osas Okoro finished up a nice counter attack move, while Chisom Egbuchulam scored a hat-trick to help Rangers clinch the League title. The victory also means that Rangers have now won the league title seven times, equalling a record set by former champions Enyimba.
