Gov. Abiodun Plans to Convert Buses from Diesel to CNG has started in Ogun

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state, has revealed the state government, has started plans to convert buses from diesel to CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), to cushion the impact of the removal of fuel subsidy in the state.

Abiodun disclosed this in an interview, monitored by our correspondent, on Channels Television on Tuesday evening.

He said, “The conversion is not restricted to state-owned mass transit buses alone and will extend to privately owned minibuses across the state at the expense of the government.”

The Ogun State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta on Monday commenced hearing of the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, against Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reports has it that both the APC and the PDP mobilised their members to be at the tribunal for solidarity.

However, political thugs stormed the venue of the tribunal with canes, otherwise known as pankere, attacking perceived opponents while police officers watched, the men of the DSS were however able to restore calm to the area.

Although the road leading to the court was barricaded at both ends by the police, it did not prevent the hoodlums from attacking their targets.

As the political thugs roamed about with canes in their hands, the police made no attempt to arrest or stop them from causing chaos.
A policeman said, “there is nothing we can do, we can’t arrest them. Everything about Ogun is always different.”

A PDP member, who was attacked by the thugs, said he lost his phone, money and other valuables in his possession while being beaten.

As of the time of filing this report, members of the PDP have fled the court premises to avoid further attacks.

DAILY POST reports that attacking opposition members at the tribunal has now become a dangerous trend in Ogun after every election.

Our attention has been drawn to a press statement by Prince Dapo Abiodun, Governor Ogun State, where he accused Senator Ibikunle Amosun as being responsible for why Ogun State lost hosting the Dangote Refinery to Lagos State.

1. On Monday, 22 May, 2023. I was privileged to attend the official commissioning of Dangote Refinery, Lekki Free Trade Zone by Mr. President, H. E. Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. I congratulate my brother, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, GCON, on this significant accomplishment for the larger benefit our Country. I also congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Babajide Sanwoolu of Lagos State, and the good people of Nigeria on this momentous occasion.

2. Since my tour of duty as Governor of Ogun State statutorily ended in May 2019, I have refrained from directly engaging and very rarely joined issues on any matter of policy undertaken by our government or the successor administration. There is no doubt that Nigeria is a sports-loving country and Ogun State noted for recording many firsts in sports and youth development initiatives, is blessed with a sports-loving Governor, Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun – MFR to encourage plethora of talents residing in every corner of the state and in the country at large.

Just this month, on Saturday May 6, 2023, the Federal Government of Nigeria and Ogun State Government signed an MOU on the Hosting Right for the National Sports Festival 2024, which is a grid point to many other sports development activities within the state. One of such sporting initiatives to encourage the grassroots football development across the state is the Ogun State Street Soccer 5-Aside tournament tagged ISEYA WINNING CUP 2023 by Ihouse Initiative Limited in collaboration with the state ministry of youth and sports in the development of youth talents in football using the private public partnership (PPP)

The Street Soccer Exhibition is in line with the goal of the Ogun State Government to reduce social vices, empower the youths in talent discovery, and promote sports in all the local governments areas of the state.

The competition had a significant street 1128 teams registered across the 20 local government areas and started with a kick-off match on Saturday January 14, 2023 on an artificial pitch at the Main Bowl of M.K.O Abiola Stadium Kuto Abeokuta. Having gone round the 20 local government areas of the state with a winner emerging in each local government area, the tournament enters the final stage where the state champion will emerge.

In an interview with one of the team Coordinators, Patriots FC, Mr Ayotunde Somide expressed satisfaction with the level of organization of the competition.

“I met with my counterpart, Sanwo-Olu and we decided that as a matter of urgency we need to take over some roads which include; Epe-Ijebu road, Ikorodu-Sagamu road and Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta road so as to reduce the population of the people passing the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
